The collection contains research files regarding the monuments made by Tiffany Studios for Green-Wood Cemetery and their clients. Included are maps, monument designs, information on clients and others associated with the family plots and correspondences between the client, Green-Wood Cemetery and Tiffany Studios.
Collection Historical Note
Tiffany Studios was a decorative arts company that was active from 1878-1933 under various forms and known for its stained glass windows, lamps and luxury items. In addition to these well known items, Tiffany Studios also designed monuments. The name "Tiffany Studios" was used during the years 1902-1932. The company was owned and operated by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, founder of the famed jewelry firm, Tiffany & Co. Tiffany was an American artist associated with the Art Nouveau and the Aesthetic movements and became the first Design Director at his family's company Tiffany & Co. Tiffany is buried at the Green-Wood Cemetery where many of his monuments can be seen.

- Folder 1: Bangs, Mrs. John Kendrick, 1922-23

- This folder contains information regarding the Bangs Memorial located in Lot # 8027. Included is a map of the plot location, a listing of family names, 3 copies of drawings of the ledger stone for John Kendrick Bangs, one unidentified headstone, and a cross headstone. Additionally, there are 3 photo images of the ledger stone for John Kendrick Bangs, two headstones, and a cross headstone. Stone material appears to be Barre Granite. Correspondences between the Bangs family, Green-Wood Cemetery and Tiffany Studios is in regards to the John Kendrick Bangs ledger stone dated 1923. Other names associated with this series are Agnes Hyde Bangs, Mary Gray (Bangs), Sedgwick Bangs, and Charles Roy Bangs. Also included is a sales reciept from Tiffany Studios dated 3/10/23.
- Folder 2: Beard, Mrs. Francis David, 1904

- This folder contains information regarding the Beard Table Monument in Lot #19761. Included is a map of the lot location, a description of the monument information and a listing of family names. A photo image of the table monument is also included. The material for the stone is possibly Tennessee Marble. Correspondence is to the Green-Wood Cemetery from the Beard family members to allow Tiffany Studios to erect the ledger stone.
- Folder 3: Bedford, Mrs. Alfred C., 1927

- This folder contains a map showing the location for lot #34160. Also included is a correspondence letter Edith Bedford (Mrs. Alfred C.) regarding the placement of new Tiffany glass window and tree removal.
- Folder 4: Beebe, H.W., 1908

- This folder contains a map showing the location of lot #21304 as well as a description of the Beebe marker. Additionally, there is a list of Beebe family members associated with this lot. The marker is made of Tennessee Marble.
- Folder 5: Bennett, Miss Ada Lenore, 1914

- This folder contains information on two lots- lot #15240 and lot #17730 with a map showing the location of each lot. Included is a descrption of 3 Bennett's with different markers and dates. There seems to be an incosistency with the Tiffany Monument List as it lists two Ada L. Bennett's with marker purchases from Tiffany Studios in 1914 and 1931 and a marker purchase dated 1911 by Mrs. M.H. Bennett. Mrs. M.H. Bennett, may or may not be a relative. There is a family names list associated with each lot as well as two photo images of each marker.
- Folder 6: Bonnell, Miss Adelaide, 1916

- This folder contains information regarding lot #20984 and lot #19686. Included is a map showing the location of the lots as well as a description of the table monument. Included is a list of family members associated with the Bonnell family for both lots. A table monument was not found for Adelaide Bonnell dating 1916 but a headstone that dates burial at 1899 in lot #20984. Lot #19686 does not show an Adelaide Bonnell but has a burial date of 1916 for Arthur H. Bonnell.

- This flolder contains information for the Brown monument in lot #24983. Included is a map showing the location of lot #24983 as well as a family name list associated with this lot. Also included is a description of the tablet monument by Tiffany Studios and a photo image of the monument. There are five pages of design drawings of the monument. Correspondences regard the foundation of the monument for Mrs. Joseph E. Brown to Green-Wood Cemetery, the setting of the Brown monument from Tiffany studios and a request from the Brown family to allow Tiffany Studios to place the monument.
- Folder 8: Burt, Mrs. James, 1908

- This folder contains information about the headstone in lot #5300. There are maps to show the locations of lots #5300 and #4611. Additionally, there is a Burt family list for each lot. A plot for Mrs. James Burt could not be located and may have purchased this headstone for someone with a different name.
- Folder 9: Chapman, Mrs. Alfred Bright (Mary Mason), 1915

- This folder contains information regarding the Alfred Bright Chapman and Alice M. Chapman headstones in lot #3919. Included is a cemetery map with the location of the lot, a descrption of of the headstone, and a list of family names associated with this lot. Additionally, there is as photo image of the Chapman headstones and correspondence. Correspondence is between Green-WoodCemetery, Tffany Studios, and family members. Included with a Tiffany Studios correpsondence is a copy of a blueprint of the Alfred Bright Chapman headstone.
- Folder 10: Childs, Mrs. Charles A. (Jennie P.), 1913

- This folder contains information about the Augusta S. Childs passion cross in lot #2824. Included is a cemetery map of the location if the lot, a descprition of the passion cross, and family names associated with the lot. Also, there is a photo image of the passion cross and correspondence. Correspondence are to Green-Wood Cemetery from Tiffany Studios and Augusta S. Childs. A copy of the Tiffany Studios cross design is included as well.
- Folder 11: Curtis, Mrs.Charles Boyd, 1906

- This folder contains information on the Curtis monument in lot #31938. Included is a cemmetery map of the lot location, a list of family names associated with this lot, an article from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, 1906 titled "Monument Erected by Mrs. Curtis", an obituary for Charles Boyd Curtis and a short article metioniong Charles Boyd Curtis from 1931. Additionally, there is a photo image of Charles Curtis Boyd and a biography.
- Folder 12: Dortic, Miss Adele A., 1904

- This folder contains information regarding the headstone of Evelina Dortic and Adele Dortic in lot #10492. Included is a description of the headstones, a cemetery map of the location of the lot, and a listing of family names associated with the lot. There is also a photo image of the headstone of Evelina Dortic and multiple correspondence. The correspondence are between Tiffany Studios and Adele Dortic to Green-Wood Cemetery. Also included is a copy of the scale drawing of the Adele A. Doric headstone and a copy of the blueprint of the same headstone.
- Folder 13: Edwards, William T., 1909

- This folder contains information regarding the William S. Edwards plot in lot #1671. Lot #11978 and lot #25093 are also included as they contain plots with the family name Edwards. No William T. Edwards exists in any of the plots. Included in the folder is a description of the Celtic cross monument, 3 maps with each of the lot locations, and family lists assoicated with the Edwards surname for each lot. It has beend determined that lot #1671 is the correct lot associated with Tiffany Studios. Correspondences are included between Tiffany Studios and William S. Edwards to Green-Wood Cemetery. copies of Tiffany Studios blupeints of the celtic cross are also inscluded as well as a photo image of the cross.
- Folder 14: Freeman, Mrs. W. E., 1912

- This folder contains a description of the headstone in the Freeman plot in lot #30680 along with a cemetery map showing the location of the lot. Also included in a flisting of fanily names associated with this lot, a photo image of a headstone with the name Howard Ederton Freeman, and a letter from W.E. Freeman to Green-Wood Cemetery.

- This folder contains information regarding the Gunther headstone in lot #3294. Additionally, lot #28742 has also been included as it contains the family name Gunther. Included are the description of the headstone, 2 maps of each lot location, and family listings for each lot. Its appears the correct lot is #3294. Two photo images of headstones, one unmarked and the other with the name Elsner Christian Gunther, and correspondence between Bernard Gunther and Green-Wood Cemetery are also included. Two copies of headstone drawings are attached to the letter.
- Folder 16: Hewitt, Mrs. Peter Cooper, 1921-22

- This folder contains information regarding the Hewitt monument in lot #3934. Included iis a map of the location of the lot, a listing of family names associated with the lot, a photo image of the Peter Cooper Hewitt monument, Tiffany Studios correpsondence and later correspondences regarding a ledger stone for Edward Ringwood Hewitt, Mary Ashley Hewitt, Candace Hewitt Stevenson, and Lucy Hewitt Pantaleoni by Brookyn Monument Co (1974) and a ledger stone for Abram Stevens Hewitt and Sarah Amelia Hewitt by Miller-Druck Co. (1938).
- Folder 17: Heydenreich, Mrs. Emile, 1913

- This folder contains information regarding the headstone and footstone of Emile Heydenreich in lot #23169. Included is a description of the stones, a cemetery map showing the location of the lot, a list of family names associated with this lot, a copy of Tiffany Studios photograph, two photo images of the stones, and correspondence. Correspondences include a permission letter from Heydenreich Estate, and a letter from Tiffany studios representative, Paul L.Gunella.
- Folder 18: Hodge, Mrs. J. Aspinwall (Charlotte Morse), 1916

- This folder contains information regarding the Hodge headstone in lot #5779. Included is a description of the lot, map of the lot locations, and a list of family names associated with this lot and lot #5761 belonging to the Morse family of which J. Aspinall Hodge is a descendent. Also included are two photo images of the J. Aspinall Hodge headstone and a Morse headstone. There is a permission letter between Charlotte Hodge Peters and Green-Wood Cemetery granting Tiffany Studios to erect a headstone on her plot. This includes copies of the drawings of the Hodge headstone by Tiffany Studios and copies of the blueprints of the Morse headstone by The Smith Granite Co.

- This folder contains information regarding the Housman monolith in lot #27011. Included is a description of the the monolith, a cemetery map showing the location of the lot, and a listing of family names associated with this lot.
- Folder 20: Jackson, H. H.; Jackson, Theodore F., 1913-14

- This folder contains information regarding a moument in lot #21121 under the name Theodore F. Jackson. The patron H.H. Jackson couldn ot be located and no additional marker could be found. Included are 3 descriptions of Jackson markers, a cemetery map showing the location of lot #21121, and family names associated with this lot. One photo image of the Jackson monument with three flat stones is also included. There are multiple correspondence between Green-Wood Cemetery, Tiffany Studios, amd Cornelia B. Jackson along with a copy of a Tiffany Studios drawing. An article from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle titled "Jackson Liberal to Nephews in Will", 1913 and a short bio for Theodore F. Jackson also included.
- Folder 21: Jadwin, Mrs. Palmer Hooper (Cornelia Blankley), 1925

- This folder contains information regarding the Jadwin headstone in lot #36431. Included is a description of the headstone, a map of the location of the lot, a list of names associated with the Jadwin family covering multiple lots, and two photo images of the Jawin headstone.
- Folder 22: Marshall, Mrs. Chauncy, 1915

- This folder contains information regarding the Marshall headstones and steps in lot #17428. Included are descriptions of the headstone and steps, a map showing the location of the lot, a list of family names associated with the lot, a photo image of the headstones and an image of the steps, and mutliple correspondence between Tiffany Studios, the Marshall family, and Green-Wood Cemetery. Also included are lot drawings with a list of internments with dates, and a copy of a drawing of a headstone for May Louise Bamber wife of Chauncey Marshall.
- Folder 23: Mason, Mrs. John, 1903

- This folder contains information regarding the Mason double headstone in lot #3919. Included is a description of the headstone, a map of the location of the lot, a list of family names associated with this lot, multiple correspondences between Tiffany Studios, Green-Wood Cemetery and the Mason family, and a drawing of a headstone for Mrs. A. B. Chapman. The Chapman family and Mason family appear to be related. See Chapman file for more information.
- Folder 24: Munsell, Mrs. A. H., 1916

- This folder contains information regarding two markers and corner posts belonging to the Munsell family in lot #22684. Included is a description of the monuments, a map showing the location of the lot, a family listing of family names associated with this lot including the last name Orr, a photo image of celtic cross monument under the name Alexander E. Orr (?), 4 copies of the foundation plan for Mrs. J. D. Nies and correspondence regarding the Orr cross between the Munsell, Orr and Nies families. Another correpsondence regarding the 4 corner posts is also included.

- This folder contains information regarding the Nies cross monument and Orr family posts in lot #1095. Included are 2 maps showing the location of this lot. a description of the Nies cross and Orr posts, and lists of family names related to this lot. See Munsell file for aditional information as this is a cross reference.
- Folder 26: Noyes, W.C., 1909/1917

- This folder contains information regarding a Noyes family ledger stone and monolith (1909) and another ledger stone (1917) in lots #4194 and #9532. Included are descriptions of the stones, maps of the locations of the lots, family names associated with these lots, photo images of the monolith, the 2 ledger stones and a headstone of Gilman Noyes.Also included are correpsondence between Green-Wood Cemetery, Tiffany Studios and the Noyes family with copies of drawings of the monolith and ledger stones.

- This folder contains information regarding the Olyphant ledger stone located in lot #32150. Included is a description of the stone, a map of the location of the lot, a listing of family names associated with this lot, a photo image of the ledger stone and correspondence from Tiffany Studios and Olyphant family along with drawings of the ledger stone.

- This folder contains information regarding tow tablet headstones belonging to the Parsons family in lot #32542. Included is a description of the stones, a map of the location of the lot, a listing of family names associated with this lot and a photo image of the double headstones.Also included is a correspondence from the Parsons family regarding Tiffany Studios and and the family plot to Green-Wood Cemetery.

- This folder contains information regarding the Pullman monument located in lot #6209. Included is a description of the monument, a map showing the location of this lot, a listing of family names associated with this lot, a photo image of the Pullman monument, and correpsondence between Green-Wood Cemetery, Tiffany Studios and the Pullman family.
- Folder 30: Robertson, Miss J., 1909

- This folder contains information regarding the Robertson ledger stone located in lot #8624. Included is a description of the stone, a map showing the location of this lot, a list of family names associated with this lot, a photo image of the ledger stone and correpsondence with drawings between Green-Wood Cemetery, Tiffany Studios, and the Robertson family.
- Folder 31: Roosevelt, Mrs. W. E., 1914/1931

- This folder contains information regarding the Roosevelt (or possibly Rosevelt) cross memorial (1914) and a double headstone (1931) located in lot #24694. Included is a description of of the stones, a map with the locations of this lot,and a listing of family names associated with this lot. Multiple correspondences are also included. The 1914 correspondences are between Green-Wood Cemetery, the Roosevelt family and N.L. Rush of Quincy, MA regarding Tiffany Studios and the erection of the cross monument in W.E. Roosevelt's lot. Included is a drawing of the monument. The 1931 corresponces are between Green-Wood Cemetery and Tiffany Studios and include copies of the bluprints for the double headstone for Philip J. Roosevelt. The last set of correspondences are dated 1936 and are between Green-Wood Cemetery, the Roosevelt family, Edwin Stanton George Studios, Inc. and Louis C. Tiffany Studios Corp. for a memorial to be placed at the grave of Leila Roosevelt Reeve-Merritt as ordered by W. Emlen Roosevelt. Included are copies of bluprints for Leila Roosevelt monument and additional inscriptions to be added on the Roosevelt monument for Philip J. Roosevelt. Lastly, there are three photo images of the cross monument, the double headstone, and the Leila Roosevent Reeve-Merritt headstone,
- Folder 32: Strong, Dr. L. Van R., 1900

- This folder contains information regarding the Strong monument located in lot #21554. Included is a description on the monument, a map with the location of this lot, and a list of family names associated with this lot. This monument and information regarding the monument is is unknown and could not be located. Names closely associated are Martha Day, burial 1900, Leonard V. String, burial 1950 and Martha A. Strong, burial 1902. Name variations for locating the memorial may be Van or Vander Strong.
- Folder 33: Tiffany, Louis C., 1933

- This folder contains information regarding the Louis C. Tiffany monument located in lot #619. Included are a map of the lot location, a list of family names associated with this lot, and multtiple correspondences of various dates. The 1911 correspondence is between Louis C. Tiffany and Green-Wood Cemetery regarding the removal of a family stone to add an inscription. The 1933 correspondence is between Green-Wood Cemetery and the Tiffany family to place a headstone at the grave of Louis C. Tiffany along with copies of blueprints of the location plan and foundation plan of Tiffany's headstone. The 1936 correspondence is between the Harrison Granite Company, Green-Wood Cemetery and Tiffany family in regards to the placement of a stone for the Estate of Louise Harriet Tiffany. Included is a copy of a blueprint of the L.H. Tiffany memorial.
- Folder 34: Wenner, Reverend George W., 1904

This folder contains information regarding the Wenner monument in lot #2284. Included is a description and information about the monument, and family names associated with this lot. This folder also includes correspondences between Green-Wood Cemetery, Tiffany Studios and the G.U. Wenner. Pohot images are of the Wenner monument fallen over and an image of the repaired Wenner monument with the inscription of George U Wenner and Rebecca Pullman, his wife.
This monument is located near the Samuel Cooper Pullman monument. Rebecca may possibly have been his sister.
- Folder 35: White, Alfred Tredway, Estate, 1920/21

- This folder contains information regarding the White Estate monument located in lot #39. Included is a map of the lot location, a list of family names associated with this lot and a photo image of the headstone with the engraving "Annie Jean Lyman White, wife of Alfred Tredway White".
- Folder 36: Young, Mrs. Thomas Sears, 1909

This folder contains information regarding the Young headstone located in lot #12381. Included is a description and information about the headstone, a map showing the location of this lot, a photo image of the headstone with the names Thomas Sears Young and Caroline E. Young and correspondence. The correspondence is between Green-Wood Cemetery, the Young and Swan families and Tiffany Studios along with a drawing of the monument.
The lot is belonging to the heirs of Benjamin L. Swan.
